Originally owned by Russell Fowler & Johnette Coker, The Haberdashery Gentlemen’s Clothiers opened in Conway, SC in the Fall of 1988. Located on the northeast corner of Third Avenue and Laurel Street, this was the first new business recruited for the downtown business district after the formation of Conway Downtown Alive (formerly Conway Main Street USA), the downtown revitalization organization. In September 1990, Tracy Pickens joined the Haberdashery team and shortly thereafter replaced Ms. Coker as partner.

In 1991, a sister store, HerDashery opened beside The Hab on Laurel Street. After sixteen years in that location, both stores moved into Black Water Market, constructed in the shell of a burned-out property in 2004.
